After nearly two years of work, we finally prepared to open our collective’s retail storefront in 2023. Members submitted prospective names, and then we voted on our favorite. Then it was time to design a logo! I immediately threw my hat in the ring for consideration, and got the job.
The manager produced a first draft of their idea on Canva and I ran with it from there.
After my fellow steering committee members approved the sketch, I started to look for fonts.
I narrowed the choices down to a few that I thought would work well for the feel we were going for, and the board voted on their favorite.
In the meantime, I got started on rendering the disco ball. We wanted a rainbow because the store is a queer retail space, and making the black and brown prominent (as in the inclusive flag) was important for the final draft.
Several tweaks followed, distributing the colors over the disco ball for balance, and even discussing how many sparkles we wanted.
