This is still a work in progress, so stay tuned!
We are working on refreshing the branding for Calvary Lutheran Church in hopes of attracting new members. The website is getting a complete overhaul, and I offered to make a new logo to go along with it. We brainstormed about what we wanted our theme to be. As we are located in a lush area, and we host a community garden, we wanted to keep the green and build our branding around that.
I will show the color map I made here! Stay tuned.
The web designer shared some logos he thought would embody the theme, as inspiration. I did some of my own research and began to build the design. I’ll show my initial sketches here with my ideation, so stay tuned!
I narrowed down the sketches to a few major themes and sent them along for approval.

We agreed on the second design, and I started making some final mockups. We eventually decided including the greenery in the logo itself was too much.
We liked the radiating light, so my second pass worked on refining that. It is also worth saying that these were done in Affinity, which I’m still learning my way around. I still prefer Adobe Illustrator because that’s what I know best, but that is NOT free for nonprofits, unlike Affinity. The Affinity suite is pretty robust, though!
Stay tuned for more updates as we make refinements and build the new site! I’ll also show off some of the new collateral I’ve made to go along with the theme.
